Island peak is also known as ImjaTse by local. It stands at height of 6,189m. It is located at Khumbu region of Nepal. It was named Island peak because of its close resemble to island sitting in middle of glacier in Chukung valley. It was named by as Island peak by members of the British Everest Expedition. It is extension of the ridge that comes down from the Lhotse Shar in 1953.

This peak is one of the most popular trekking peak in the Nepal. It can be climbed with little or no experience with the help of support climber. This peak can be starting point for beginners in the field of mountaineering. This peak is often used by the climbing team as warm up peak before their major expedition in the region such as Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse.  It helps them to acclimatize and refresh their skills. 

The changing temperature have made impacted this peak too. The glacier have converted into field of crevasses. This peak now closely resemble the condition of Mt. Everest with Khumbu Glacier with lot of crevasses. This can be good to those who wants to experience the thrill of walking in field of crevasses without having to risk very much. 

This peak can customized and added with other trekking route for making more interesting. Often it is combined with Everest Base Camp (EBC).

Itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Kathmandu International Airport and Transfer to Hotel (1,300m).

Arrival in Kathmandu and pick up and transfer to hotel by office representative. Hang around Thamel on availability of time. Acquire and prepare necessary gear for the trip.

Day 02

Fly to Lukla (2,800m) and trek to Phakding (2,640m) 3-4 hours.

We take early flight to Lukla (25minutes) and easy downhill walk to Phakding. Its short trek to Phakding from Lukla. The trail goes alongside Dudh Koshi River.

Day 03

Phakding to Namche Bazar (3,446m) 5-6 hours.

Namche Bazar is also known as Sherpa Capital. Sherpa is an ethnic community of people who are well known for being good at mountaineering.

Day 04

Exploration Day in Namche Bazaar

Namche Bazar is one of best place to stay. Namche Bazar is good for exploring Sherpa culture and tradition. Modern facilitates are increasing in the region. It is the combination of modern and primitive life. You can visit museum and have relaxation time in Namche.

Day 05

Namche Bazar to Tengboche (3800m) 5-6 hours.

On the way to Tengboche, the view of Himalaya is breathtaking. Chorten and praying flag hanged in the path to Tengboche gives amazing view to the scenery. Tengboche has monastery that is well renowned around the region. This monastery is biggest and represents the history of Buddhism in the region.

Day 06

Tengboche to Dingboche (4,243m) 5-6 hours.

It gradual uphill climb to Dingboche. It’s an easy ascent without any steep climb or downhill. Early start on this particular day give good sunrise view of Mt. AmaDablam. It have view point where you can see exotic view of Mt. AmaDablam.

Day 07

Rest and acclimatization day in Dingboche.

Acclimatization is very important in altitude. It is best to rejuvenate body to climb further in altitude.  You can visit to the Himalayan Rescue Association to listen the lecture about various health related issue in high altitude.

Day 08

Dingboche to Chhukung(4,730m) 4hours.

It will be short lunch camp to Chhukung village. It is a small settlement and last stop before climbing. Equipments and necessary items can be purchased and hired here.

Day 09

Chhukung to Island Peak Base Camp (5,200m) 3-4 hours.

It will be short walk to base camp.  The base camp would be set by the staffs sent in advance. Preparations will be made by staffs to climb the peak.

Day 10-11

Climbing Period.

Extra day is added to ensure the success of climbing.

Day 12

Island Peak Base camp to Pangboche (3,985m) 5-6 hours.

We will trace back the same route to ascend to the base camp.

Day 13

Pangboche to Namche Bazar (3,446m) 4-5 hours.

We will trace back the same route to ascend to the base camp.

Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,800 m) 6-7 hours.

We will trace back the same route to ascend to the base camp.

Day 15

Lukla to Kathmandu Valley.

On arrival to Kathmandu, Sherpa Khangri representative will transfer you back to the Hotel. It will be free day. In evening, dinner with cultural dance will be arranged to celebrate the trip.

Day 16

Transfer to International Airport for final departure.
