Expedition Director at Seven Summit Treks, said that Bartek Ziemski from Poland scaled Makalu and performed ski descent on the world’s fifth highest mountain.
“On May 12th, summit Makalu, the fifth highest peak on Earth. Bartek ski descended thenafter. Their summit attempt on May 10th going directly from Base Camp to Camp 3 (7400m) on Makalu. They spent the next day at this altitude and started the summit push at 10 pm. They reached the top at 10:38 am. Later,
Bartek put his skies on the summit. His descend was executed using fixed ropes for security and taking out the skis on the french couloir section. Below the couloir Bartek continued his descent until reaching Camp 3.
The duo spent the night in Camp 3, and on the next day Bartek continued his descend until reaching the last point with snow, which is 6000 m, taking out the skies only at a steep section below Camp 1. Oswald descended in a normal way to the base camp.
