Nepal is among one of the competitive countries in the world in terms of honeybees and for honey hunting. Recently it has been regard as one of the adventurous sports activity in Nepal tourism context.
Study reports says that atleast five different species of honeybees are found in Nepal. The wild honey bees make their beehives on the cliffs of big rocks and mountians. So this is one of the challenging adventure attraction in Nepal tourism context. Specially , this honey hunting is a cultural a like traditionally carried out twice (spring and autumn) a year. Local people head and members get engaged to collect the honey nectar . The honey has many use in our daily lives. It is mostly use for the for medicinal benefits and tratement used in psychedelic hallucinogens a chemical presence called Grayanotoxin. Honey hunting in Nepal is carried out uniquely as traditional method. Locals collect the honey from the cliffs with climbed up hang on with big ropes with bamboo stick attached with facial and body cover protection and gets to hunt in those bee hive areas.
Annually, we conduct a 5-7 days Honey hunting trip mostly in Dolokha district of Nepal. It is a scenic drive along the highway touching Tamakoshi river and curve path of highway to reach to Jagat. After that we trek 1/2 days to upper region of local area. We enjoy this trip not just for honey hunt but experience of local culture, lifestyle, camping site, nature beauty etc. A full 1 day be used for the hunt so our team takes you the point where you can too be witness how the tradition hunt does.
