Another Two climbers fell down and went missing near Hillary step on Mt Everest since yesterday 22 May morning, officials confirmed. This tallys 4 lost on Everest and 2 on Makalu this spring 2024.
According to a source at the base camp, a climber from UK Daniel Paul Peterson and a Sherpa climber Pas Tenji Sherpa fell down when a section of route in the Hillary step below the summit point collapsed yesterday morning. They were part of 8K Expeditions.
The incident occurred when the duo were returning to the lower camps after reaching summit point at around 4:40am on May 21.
Likewise , Rescuers recovered the body of Mongolian climber Usukhjargal near south summit of Everest . Another fellow Purevsuren was also found on balcony of Everest. Two Mongolian climbers who choose to attempt Mt Everest without guides and supplement oxygen were gone missing above 8,000m since May 12. The last contact was made around 7:30 pm the same day .
Simillarly, on Makalu this spring season 2 death has been recorded. French climber died above 8,000m on Mt Makalu . A 60-year-old Johnny Saliba breathed his last at around 8,120m while he was descending towards lower camp . Earlier, Lakpa Tenji Sherpa from Solukhumbu died near Camp III on Mt Makalu while returning from the summit point on May 7.
